Holidays in Salorno in Val d'Adige valley
SalornoSalorno (Salurn) is the most southern village in South Tyrol and lies at 226 m above sea level. Like all the other villages on the South Tyrolean Wine Road, also Salorno is embedded in orchards, vineyards, forests and meadows. The mountains form a chasm in the Salorno area, the chasm of Salorno (Salurner Klause) which forms the German-Italian linguistic and cultural border, where South Tyrol borders with the province of Trentino. Beautiful manors and country houses, mainly of the Renaissance style, give Salorno a special flair. The parish church on the village square was refurbished in the Renaissance style. The Castle Salorno is enthroned high above the village, it stems from the 11th century, but the trail up to the ruin is arduous and a little dangerous. From Salorno you can go up to the summer resort Cauria at 1.328 m. From here you have a magnificent view over the Val d’Adige valley, the village is a station of the European Hiking Route E5 that leaves South Tyrol and goes to the Valle di Cembra valley. |
