The pretty village of Gais is situated at 841 m above sea level and lies amidst green vast pastures above which the tower of the castle Neuhaus is enthroned.
The famous minnesinger Oswald von Wolkenstein is said to have lived in this castle.

Gais is also the home of the world famous sculptor-family Bacher whose works of arts are exhibited in the graveyard chapel and the guardian house with exhibitions of the sculptor Alois and Heinz Bacher.

In summer the magnificent lake is very popular for swimming in, especially families and small children value the low depth and free entrance.

Departing from Villa Ottone an easy hiking trail leads up to the ruin of castle Uttenheim with Roman and Byzantine frescos.
The parish church of Villa Ottone on the contrary is late-Baroque with frescos of the artist Anton Zeiller from Reutte in Tyrol.

Gais and Villa Ottone (Uttenheim) have many great walks and hiking trails to get to know the surroundings.
